5 Tips to Strengthen Your Mind

Perhaps you’ve heard the old saying, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste.” There are lots of ways to strengthen the mind. Contrary to popular belief, the adult human brain can even create new cells. Neurogenesis is the process or the brain creating neurons. Here’s a list of activities to exercise your mind.

  1. Learn a New Instrument: Musical instruments exercise the same areas of a brain as learning a foreign language.
  2. Test Your Memory: Make a list of things to do and commit the list to memory. It can be a grocery list or a list of daily tasks. Many people rely heavily on smartphones and email. The need for short-term memory has gone by the wayside.
  3. Play Games: They might be video, board, or card games. Yes, even video games can be helpful to exercise the mind. Not all games will help in this area. Spend some time playing games that encourage analytical thinking and problem-solving.
  4. Learn a New Sport: Physical activity is not only healthy for our bodies but also stimulates the mind. Playing a sport that requires hand-eye coordination works some of the same areas of the brain as doing math problems.
  5. Meditate: Some studies have shown that meditation can improve attention-span. Meditation can be as simple as focusing on your breathing for a few minutes.
